Sunset over Tempelhofer Feld

The former Tempelhof Airport has been a massive – 386-hectare – public park, ever since the airport shut down in 2008.

I just love that the city of Berlin has given this huge potential goldmine of a site to the public. There’s a 6 km walking, jogging, cycling or skating track, a dog-walking field, areas to barbeque or picnic, and plenty of space for kite flying. It’s probably the only city in the world where you can ride a bike down a runway!

    1. Yes, it’s definitely worth a visit! You can also do a tour of the old airport and they have various events there. I love that there’s rarely a “Keep off the Grass” sign in Berlin – kick off your shoes, bring out the grill, let the dog run free – it’s such a nice atmosphere 🙂
